Babysitting a Kitty

We are babysitting for John's cat this week. She's very charming, and her name is Juliet. Avery loves her, and cannot figure out why she doesn't love him back. He's a little intense, but they'll get used to each other. He's been reading to her, singing to her, following her into small places where only a cat and a four year old can fit, and generally making himself available to her.

So we talked about possibly getting our own cat, maybe some day. Avery had a great idea for a name. He woke up from his name yesterday to share it with me. He said, "Mama, if we get a cat, I know what I want to name her. I want to name her Chicken."

Updates: 1. Avery has learned how to gallop. He calls it skipping, and he has been doing it all around the living room, street, park, store... since yesterday afternoon. Everywhere. 2. A New Food Every Three Days...

If you were to try a new food every three days for about a year, don't you think you'd get to the point where you had to be really creative to find something new? With combinations of ingredients, knowing that you have tried one dish, you would think that you'd exhaust the possibilities. Well, we've been new foods like this for some time now, and every time I go to the grocery or Farmer's Market, I come back with something new for Avery. Ritz crackers were introduced today! Chive cream cheese was on the menu a few days ago. This evening, we combined the two for Ritz cracker and chive cream cheese fiesta. Avery hogged down seven crackers piled high with cream cheese, had a huge piece of extra sharp cheddar, and some berry applesauce. This was all washed down with a huge bottle of organic whole milk, which friend Jeanna says, "tastes like fresh cut grass and ice cream."
