From the Mouths of (Our) Babes

Is this genetic? Avery has been talking about puzzles a lot lately. He was so excited to learn that his classroom has acquired some new ones, and barely said goodbye this morning he was so distracted by them. They are glow in the dark puffy puzzles with various animal homes and animals, where you match the animals with their homes and then their spot on the puzzle. I almost wanted to stay to complete them with him!

We are at a Korean restaurant for lunch. When we walked in, Avery announced, "I've been here before. They have a guinea pig in the bathroom!". Upon entering said bathroom, I asked Avery where the guinea pig was. He explained, "Mama, it's invisible! That's why you can't see it."

At circle time at the end of the day, kids are asked to share (if they want to) 'roses' or 'thorns'. A rose is something good they want to share from their day, and a thorn something not so good. Yesterday, apparently Avery offered a 'rose'. He looked at his teacher MaryBeth and said to her directly, "I really love you." She said she just melted. Our sweet, sweet boy (usually).

Avery to his friend's mom yesterday... "At first, when I met him, I was scared. But then we played. I got to know him. And now I know him and he's my friend." There was something so simple and honest in his description of early friends. I also love his ability to express his feelings like this.

I can't wait to hear what he learns! He hasn't been very forthcoming in this, the first week of "real" school. The first day, my report included a "pee report" (he peed on the "same side" as a little girl from his class at Trinity). That was about it. Then, yesterday, he told me that he cleaned up the "blueberry area" before the "house area" was cleaned up. And it was a "disaster" (and then, apparently, he asked what a disaster was). He's adjusting well, but I think that days at TPS are LONG. Today they have their first "sharing" time, and were asked to bring something "from nature, that they made or a book." Avery brought a rainbow painting he painted with Sashee, and a little bouncy ball contraption he made out of a ball, a balloon and some string for Baby Jordan (Lisa and Nick's baby).

I said to Avery, "Do you want to hear one of the reasons I am so proud of you?" Avery thought for a second, and then replied, "No. I want to hear ALL of them."
