From the Mouths of (Our) Babes

We visited the library on the last full day in P'town. Avery was the only little guy for story time, so enjoyed a selection chosen especially for him. Librarian Sarah, and volunteer Katie, read some books, while Avery played with the toy trucks, trains and blocks. There was also a little spot to have a puppet show, and colorful pillows to sit on. It was a nice break from the very HOT and muggy day.

Another great day in P'town. Avery spent some time in his swimmie diaper, prancing around the beach with Sally. Then, time in the hammock with dad. Afterwards, sand playing with mom. Clearly, Avery's been a very well-documented baby. Today, in the car, on the way home from dinner at Clem & Ursies, where Avery and I shared Alaskan King Crab Legs (he actually seemed to like them!), Avery's patience for being photographed waned. He appeared to be saying, "No more baby paparazzi!"

Avery's toys are all over the place in Ptown, and he loves it. There are perfect little hip level spots where he can play with his puzzle, or grab a book for one of us to read to him. It was raining today, so he lounged on the sofa, and made some phone calls to Nan.

What a great little traveler our boy is! Avery started the day bright and early, in a very happy mood. We got in the road a bit late due to some baby-related circumstances that we won't go into, but were off by 9am. We started the day with Avery's first drive-through breakfast, and Avery loved the BK eggs and pancakes. Avery was then very entertained by his new books recommended by BethAnn, Remy and Sophie. His favorites were "First Words" by Bright Baby, and "Silly Faces on the Go" and "Baby Masks". These last two books have cut out spots for the reader to insert his or her face or eyes. Walker didn't find this book as entertaining and Avery and I did. Avery also loved the cup holder from Dairy Queen, and put his little red ball into all the little cup spots. Yesterday, while mommy was at her meeting, daddy and I spent time tooling around the nation's capitol. We visited the Fish Market at L'Enfant Plaza, the Air and Space museum, the Hirshorn Sculpture Garden, the National Gallery and the Mall. I loved the Calder mobiles and the Giacometti sculptures, and loved spending time with dad. When's the next trip?

So I've had an exciting few days. Mom, dad and I drove to Washington, DC through a snow storm on Sunday. It was pretty cool. The snow was coming down hard, and sticking to all of the trees. Daddy is a great driver, and I slept through most of it. We got to Washington and visited mommy's friend and mentor, Amy, at her neat house. She's so great and made me laugh a lot. While there, I got to sit on a big rooster, and a camel, and even met Fidel Castro! But the neatest part was that I met their great dog, Winston. He's WAY bigger than I am, but I wasn't scared. He licked my face and ate Wheat Thins. He was funny and fun to watch. We also got to stay at this funky old hotel on the waterfront. House boats, with people living in them, sat in the water right off our balcony. I loved watching the ice on the water, and the seagulls and other birds flying and diving.
