Negotiations



We've begun negotiating, and so has Avery.

A few days ago, Avery met a new friend, Finn, age 4, at the park. Finn negotiated with his mom to play for five more minutes with Avery. When five minutes were up, Avery asked Finn's mom for "More minutes, please."

Frequently, when offered a sweet treat, "only one!", Avery will ask, "how about two?" Two is really the biggest number he knows. One, two or many.

This morning, we did some negotiation getting dressed. I wanted Avery to put on a new beachy sweater. He resisted, until I told him that people who drive jeeps like to wear sweaters like this. He is now wearing the sweater and we're both happy. I am not sure that this is the best tactic, nor am I sure what I am teaching him here, but he needed to wear a sweater this morning when it was chilly, and, well, it worked!

Updates: 1. Avery has learned how to gallop. He calls it skipping, and he has been doing it all around the living room, street, park, store... since yesterday afternoon. Everywhere. 2. A New Food Every Three Days...

If you were to try a new food every three days for about a year, don't you think you'd get to the point where you had to be really creative to find something new? With combinations of ingredients, knowing that you have tried one dish, you would think that you'd exhaust the possibilities. Well, we've been new foods like this for some time now, and every time I go to the grocery or Farmer's Market, I come back with something new for Avery. Ritz crackers were introduced today! Chive cream cheese was on the menu a few days ago. This evening, we combined the two for Ritz cracker and chive cream cheese fiesta. Avery hogged down seven crackers piled high with cream cheese, had a huge piece of extra sharp cheddar, and some berry applesauce. This was all washed down with a huge bottle of organic whole milk, which friend Jeanna says, "tastes like fresh cut grass and ice cream."
