Symptoms? Tingly hands and feet and a sore throat. Cure? Ice Cream!

Avery's been in a funk the last few days, which seemed to be peak yesterday afternoon. To avoid a weekend emergency doc's call, we took him in to Colleen, our fav at the pediatrician's office. Apparently, it turns out that he DOES have a virus. It's called hand-foot-mouth disease. Colleen said he probably got it at the Playgroup visit on Monday. This all reminds us that we might wait on the playgroup for a while.

The bad news is, it lasts a week, and we're only halfway through it. Last night's schedule was-7pm sleep, 9pm wake up, 12 midnight come to our bed, 2am sit up and say, "Baa Baa", 3am wake up for Ibuprofen, restless until 4:30 and then awake at 7am. Needless to say, we are both exhausted (Walker is sleeping now, I got some in this AM).

The good news is that it just runs its course, no antibiotics. Aside from having tingly hands and feet, he also has a sore throat. This means ice cream! Colleen advocated giving him popsicles, jello, anything soothing on the throat that goes down easily. I asked him if he'd like popsicles. He shook his head "yes" emphatically. Walker quickly went out into the rainy, cold evening to the grocery store to stock up, returning with two boxes of popsicles, Italian ices, ice cream, and juice. Avery was disappointed, however. Apparently, he thought I asked him if he wanted "popi", and was confused with the arrival of the "popsicle". He said, "popi popi popi nan," when Walker arrived home with the goods.

After some initial explanation, we offered wild berry, lime and/or strawberry pops. He didn't seem to have a preference, and tried them all AND the Hagen Daz vanilla bean we got him. At least he got a little hydrated (he hadn't had ANYTHING to drink all day) and ate a bit.

He does this sweet thing when eating something lately---he wants to have others around join in. After testing the pops, he then wanted to share the drippy, sticky mess with me. He will try to feed people grapes or cookies, anything he's eating. If you join, he tends to eat more, too. Very cute.

All's quiet now so we're going to get some sleep...
