From the Mouths of (Our) Babes

We were building hills for sledding, and Avery said he was hungry. He had a request, "Mama, I'm a little cold. Let's go inside and have some hot chocolate and green beans!" I am pretty sure he's one of the first (three year old's) to suggest this unusually healthy post snow day combination.

We have submitted applications for Avery to "big kid school." He will enroll in a Pre-K program next year in a school that will, if it is a fit, either take him to 8th grade or all the way through to 12th. It's amazing that it feels like this real school experience is starting! So one of the schools we're applying to requires a Play Day, which we had on Saturday morning. We brought Avery to the school, and waited in line with other parents and children. There were about a total of 20 kids, and they were divided into two groups. They got nametags, and we brought them into this maze of classrooms, where playdough, blocks, legos and various other games were set up. After a few minutes, we left to join other parents in the gym, and hear from some of the older kids about their experience at the school. At the end of it all, we waited by a door, and the kids were brought back down to us. Avery reported, "I liked it so much! There weren't any trains, but...

Avery set the table for the first time! Then, he refused to actually sit down and eat dinner (mostly due to a pre-dinner dumpling and cilantro yogurt feast), instead preferring to be a "sofa ghost." Here, he walked over to us and said, "Dada, where is Avery? Do you know where Avery is? Can anyone find Avery?" He found this HIGHlarious.

Avery got a package of letter books from Nan and Popi because they thought it was Hannukah last weekend. He loves the books. Yesterday, he arranged them all on the dining room table. Then, he got pieces of dried spaghetti and created different letters with them, asking me about each one. Here he is with his V.
